Confessions of a late night launderer. Unabated thoughts and ramblings.

No Canadian quartersNo Canadian quarters, eh? Yeah, can’t say I blame you there. I like the weight, the feel, and the sound of a quarter from ‘Merica! Those Canadian ones make a weird sound when clanked together. It’s more of a ‘tink’ sound than a ‘clank’ sound like a US quarter.

Does anyone else enjoy the smell of laundry, laundered at a laundry mat? I’m not sure what the difference is, but there’s a discernible difference in the smell of laundry, cleaned in a public washing machine. Perhaps it’s all the different detergents used in that machine prior to you using it? Or maybe they have softer water? I’m not sure what it is, but I like it.

Laundry soapI typically use homemade laundry soap that I make myself, but since I’m 1,800ish miles from home, I’m using what they’ve provided for me. These little laundry soap packet bombs. I’m not sure what they are, but they look serious. Whoever came up with these was using their noggin! They smell really good too! At first I thought these were supposed to be used in the dishwasher, but then I thought I remembered seeing these at the store in the laundry detergent aisle. Eh, either way, they’re what I’m using tonight!

The best part of seafood is afterwards, when you’re brushing your teeth. The after taste is quite atrocious. Makes you have some pretty rancid breath for quite awhile if you don’t do something about it. Chew some gum or something at least. Why is it called seafood anyway? Everything I ate tonight came from the ocean. Is ‘oceanfood’ not as easy to say?

I don’t want to go home at all. It’s so nice here. Easy living. The pace is slowed down just enough so as to enjoy your surroundings more.

Where are my twitter followers going? I had 180 a week ago. Now I’m down to 173. Oh well, guess they couldn’t handle this much awesomesauce. I’ll try not to lose any sleep over it – this time.

Speaking of sauce, that cocktail sauce I had for dinner was spicier than normal. I liked it…a lot! Wonder if it was homemade?

Homemade like my grandma’s pecan pies. God, those are so good. I miss my grandma. I should go see her when I get home.

Home.

It’s SO nasty there right now. It’s not only cold, but they are getting hammered with snow. Thank God I’m in Florida. So thankful that the Paddack’s keep having me come down to do pictures for them. I love it here. And I love photography. Seems like a perfect match!

I’m looking forward to doing pictures tomorrow morning! Nothing like taking pictures of a gorgeous subject. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I disagree. I’ve seen images that are worth far more than that. Complete life stories; able to be told from a single image. THAT’S the kind of image I’m after. I want to shoot one that is so breathtaking, you can’t even say “Wow” because it’s that amazing! This gives me an idea for another blog post. Keep your eyes peeled for that one in the near future.

Time to put these clothes in the dryer. I’m not looking forward to this next part – folding. I hate that part. Luckily I’m traveling lightly and I just roll most of my clothes up so they don’t get wrinkled in my suitcase. Perhaps I’ll start rolling my clothes at home. Noted.

Corn Fed Leonidas LogoCorn Fed Spartans. Can’t wait to meet back up with those crazy muckers. The Indiana race is going to be insane! But we’ve got the Vegas race before that. THAT should be an interesting trip. I certainly hope nobody ends up in jail, or tazed, or infected by any diseases! I think we’ll be alright though. I hope. We’re a pretty resilient group of people. We’ve been through a lot of stuff as individuals in our own personal lives, but we’ve also overcome some very physical obstacles together as a team. That’s what it’s all about.

Funny thing about not having Oreos in so long; I’m not even really missing them. Very little desire for them actually. Granted, I’ve substituted them with other crap that’s no good for me. I need to clean my diet back up. Especially if I’m going to be doing these races still. I’ll clean it back up once I get home.

Ugh. Home.

I do kind of need to get back there though. I’ve got some things I need to get done so I can continue onward in my pursuit of happiness. Things that, unfortunately, won’t be all that fun. But once they’re done, I’ll be living the dream once again.

Living the dream. I’m so lucky to have the opportunity to come down here to do pictures for these guys. They treat me well, pay for my flight down here and back home, and pay me for the photographs I capture for them.

Ok, I’ll be right back. First dryer stopped already. That was really fast!

I think I figured out why it was so fast. They’re gas dryers as opposed to electric!

SR Shirt frontSR Shirt backThis is my favorite t-shirt right here. A shirt I picked up from the Midwest Super in October of last year. I love everything about it. It’s a soft, comfy material, it’s Spartan, and it’s a breast cancer awareness shirt. I hope at least some of the money from these went to the fund.

These shirts were rolled. Just waiting on the next dryer to finish.

SkivviesBoxers or briefs? Boxer-briefs for me. I just recently switched from all white, to a multitude of different colors. I’m pretty happy with the way that decision has worked out so far. I make these things look smashing! They’re comfortable, have no tags, and they have really comfortable waistbands on them. Solid decision on my part to switch to these.

Someone just rolled by all slow like. Almost like he was the 5-0 on patrol. He was probably wondering why on earth anyone would be doing their laundry this late at night. HEY! I’m a night owl, Jack!

Duck Dynasty is an amazing show. I think it’s so good, I wrote an entire blog about it actually. Can’t wait for the next episode. Jase is my favorite character followed closely by Si. The family dynamics of the show is what makes it so great though. Seriously, if you’ve not watched it…watch it!

My phone is going to die soon. Should’ve brought my charger. It’s at 10%. Maybe I’ll be done before it dies. If not, I’ll catch you up to speed later.

These online dating sites; I’m not so sure about them. I wrote a blog about tips for ladies on those sites. I had hundreds of hits on that blog, but from the looks of it, it must have been the fellas reading it. Either that or none of the ladies took my advice. I’m going to delete my account on my birthday. I’m finished with that whole experience. More time for John Shue!

Alright, whites are done. Time to pair up some socks and roll some undershirts.

I don’t know why these lint traps say, “Clean lint filter before each use.” They should suggest cleaning it after each use. Otherwise you’ll be cleaning out someone else’s lint. Freakin’ gross!

SUCCESS! All of my socks have mates! None of them were consumed by the dryer monster this time. Got everything packed up; now it’s time to clean up. My motto is: “Leave it cleaner than you found it.” If we would apply this to everything in life, the world would be a much better place to live. The place looks great, time to head back to headquarters.

YuenglingI’m sitting here at HQ now, just put my laundry down and cracked open an ice cold Yuegling. I’ve only got a few left. I’ll not be buying any more this trip. Since I’m flying home I won’t be bootlegging any back to Indiana this time. I’ll save that for a time when I drive down here that way I can get a decent size order to take home with me. I’m going to finish this one then head to bed. I’ve got to be up pretty early for pictures before I head to breakfast.

Thanks for following along with some of my random thoughts. They’re half-way organized and generally follow some sort of train of thought. Depending on how this post fares, I may try something like this again. Otherwise I’ll just keep my real-time thoughts to myself and save the key points for posts to expand on at a later time.

A glimpse into the mind of John Shue. I love it. I would like to focus on the laundry- I liked the laundromat myself back in my days of apartment living. It was always so warm and toasty, and the sound of the machines was surprisingly soothing. I also enjoyed that I could do all loads at once. At home it takes me all day to do 5 loads. In college, I actually used to study in the dorm laundry room in the basement.

Weather- I hear Indiana is a mess do why not extend your trip?? Makes for good postcard fodder too: “Miss you! Sorry I am stuck here another week! Ugh! Guess I will hang out at the beach some more ! See you soon!”

The sound of the machines is certainly soothing, somehow. I found it very easy to focus on my thoughts while all three loads of laundry were washing simultaneously.

Funny you should mention that about the weather. It is cold and snow-covered back home. So, I’ve done exactly as you’ve suggested. My original flight was to depart tonight, but I have gotten it extended until Monday evening. I just looked at the extended forecast here in Florida – sunny and 70-80 degrees each day. I’m a very lucky fella!

And speaking of postcards; I just picked up a couple today! Although, it wasn’t to mail them back home to anyone. I grabbed them from the front office of the place I’m doing photography for. They are postcards featuring photographs I took last time I was down here! Talk about exciting! MY pictures are being used to represent this beautiful place! I couldn’t ask for more. Well, I could, but that would just be greedy of me. 😉

Wow that’s so awesomesauce about the postcards! And totally worthy of its own post! I read your BB award post and realize this may be in the works. Looking forward to seeing them.
Great idea to hang in FL! Enjoy your extended weekend and time there.
