Ok, not quite yet, but my birthday is fast approaching! I’m going to be 31 in just a few short weeks. Thirty-one years old. A number, like age, is such a relative thing. Thirty-one is old compared to say, my son, who is only four. But it is so young compared to the people I’ve had the pleasure of hanging around with lately. Every passing year brings so much wisdom with it. Life lessons that I’m able to learn along the way. New friends I get to make. And new journeys I get to embark upon. I used to say I wouldn’t live to see 40, which probably would have been true had I not gotten my diabetes under control! But now I’m looking forward to growing old and becoming one of those older guys that younger generations look at and say, “That fella has seen a lot, he’s been through a lot, he is a wise old man.” That’s not to say that I want that time to hurry up and get here any time soon. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ll sit back and enjoy the ride; making memories as I go.
Speaking of making memories; there’ll be many memories made coming up a couple weeks, just before my actual day of birth. On the ides of March, a large group of friends and I will be getting together for our annual March birthdays celebration. There are several of us who were born the last week of March or the first week of April, so we get together for dinner, drinks, and an overall good time. Last year was the “Best Birthday EVER!” So I’m hoping this year we can top that celebration. I can’t promise you guys that I won’t end up at the Tilted Kilt again though for some late night nachos. A fella has to eat, you know?!
Now, you’re probably wondering to yourself, “What do I get him for his birthday? He’s living the dream already. And he’s not big into possessions or material things anymore.” Well, let me help you out with that. Just because I’ve freed myself of most physical possessions that were weighing me down, that doesn’t mean that I can’t use some things to help me with my journey in the pursuit of happiness. So, to make things easier for you, I’ve compiled a little list of things that I could use in the quest for ultimate happiness. For your perusal, I present to you: My Birthday Wish List.
Please don’t feel obligated to purchase anything from that list. If you can think of something that I could use that would make my life easier and/or more enjoyable, then by all means, I give you creative freedom to come up with an alternate gift. Or, you don’t have to get me anything at all. Just get with me at some point and lets have our picture taken together. It’ll help me with another one of my many picture projects; my ‘Picture With Me‘ project. Which, in case you’ve not heard, is the one where I’m trying to get a recent picture of me with each of my friends.
Here’s to many more birthdays, many more memories with friends, many more life lessons and earned wisdom, and many more years of blogging so you too can enjoy the Chronicles of Shue.
